VE Day – celebrate 75 years!

Friday 8th May 2020 sees Britain celebrate 75 years since the end of World War II when Nazi Germany formally surrendered to Britain and its Allies. Although the country will still be in lockdown and not able to celebrate in the originally planned way, the government are urging families to take time and remember the special anniversary. The BBC are hosting many televised events during the day, including the Queen addressing the nation at 21.00 – the exact moment her father, King George VI, gave a radio address 75 years ago. Other plans include a public sing-along of Dame Vera Lynn’s We’ll Meet Again, which has become synonymous with World War Two but also seems very fitting in these current times.

World War II saw Britain and Allied Forces fighting for almost six years in a war that cost more than an estimated 24 million soldiers and 47 million civilian lives worldwide.

There are many resources available to download, including a pack with ideas for homemade VE Day bunting, original recipes, games, and educational and creative activities for children produced by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, so families under lockdown can create their own experiences at home.

At Trident Marketing, we are certainly very proud to be celebrating Victory in Europe on Friday. We will be putting up the bunting and taking part in the 2-minute silence at 11 o’clock to thank and remember all those that gave their tomorrow for our today.
